I found myself completely alone as I stepped into Lisbon’s Igreja do Sagrado Coração de Jesus (Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), designed by Nuno Teotónio Pereira and Nuno Portas. The cold, vast space felt overwhelming, yet beams of sunlight streamed through the skylight, casting a quiet warmth that softened the silence.

I found peace among the haunting concrete walls.
